Welcome To The
Havering Family Diabetes Group Website

The Havering Family Diabetes Group was first established in May 1995 with the aim of providing advice and support to people suffering with diabetes, their families, friends and carers.

We host guest speakers from the medical and pharmaceutical professions, concentrating on the main aspects of the condition by inviting Diabetes Consultants and Specialist Nurses, Podiatrists, Optometrists and Dieticians to give talks on their specialist subject.
The group is also very committed to fund-raising and enjoys holding both race nights and quiz nights and other various forms of entertainment such as barn dances and discos. All monies raised are donated either directly to Diabetes UK for research or are given to local hospitals and clinics to enable the purchase of much needed equipment.
We also aim to focus on the younger group members who have diabetes and have successfully funded several of them to take part in Diabetes UK organised holidays, during which time they are able to learn more about their condition and how to cope with everyday life. There they have the opportunity to socialise with other children and teenagers, gaining support and friendship from their peers, all overseen by medically qualified staff and volunteers.
