World Diabetes Day
14th November 2008

THE HAVERING FAMILY
DIABETES GROUP
PATRON: ANGELA WATKINSON, MP

(A voluntary branch of DIABETES UK)

INFORMATION STAND IN THE ROMFORD SHOPPING MALL

(outside McDonald’s)

Between 10:00am & 4:00pm

The day proved extremely successful. We spoke with 102 passing shoppers, offering free blood testing, supportive advice and information on diabetes, our own group and Diabetes UK.

We would like to give our special thanks to Diabetes Specialist Nurse, Lis Williams who  tested 115 people, nine of whom had higher than normal blood glucose readings.  Six of those it was suggested would possibly need a glucode tolerance test and were therefore told to seek further advice from their doctor. The other three were advised to have a further blood test at some stage.

If any of these people do receive a positive diagnosis they at least will have the chance of early medical intervention, affording them the opportunity of diabetes education and hopefully prevention or delay of related complications.

Hopefully we have managed to reduce very slightly the missing 750,000 people as yet undiagnosed with diabetes in the UK.

THANK YOU AGAIN LIS FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTION IN HELPING TO MAKE THIS SPECIAL DAY A VERY SUCCESSFUL ONE
